Street Boss is off to a phenomenal start in 2017, led by recent Hong Kong Triple Crown winner Rapper Dragon and Kentucky Derby-bound G3 Sunland Derby hero Hence. Their exploits have helped to propel Street Boss to the top of the list as the leading active American sire with worldwide earnings of $4,172,373.
With his victory in the 140th running of the Hong Kong Derby on March 19th, Street Boss’s brilliant son Rapper Dragon became the first horse in history to sweep the Classic Series, Hong Kong’s version of the Triple Crown. The Hong Derby, a local G1, carries a purse of $2.3 million – making it worth more than the Kentucky Derby. He had previously captured the Hong Kong Classic Mile in January and the 9-furlong Hong Kong Classic Cup in February before taking the 10-furlong Hong Kong Derby to write his name in the record books.
An Australian-bred, Rapper Dragon was G1-placed as a two-year-old when second in the G1 Champagne Stakes at Randwick, one of only five juvenile G1 events in Australia, before relocating to Hong Kong.
According to trainer John Moore, Rapper Dragon will point to an international G1 at Sha Tin for his next start – either the Queen Elizabeth II on April 30th or the Champions Mile on May 7th.
This past weekend, Street Boss’s three-year-old son Hence took a major step towards the first Saturday in May with a victory in the $800,000 G3 Sunland Derby at Sunland Park. The win gained him 50 points on the Kentucky Derby trail, which will be more than enough to secure him a spot in the field.
Street Boss is the sire of five G1 winners including 2016 Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia , G1 Kings Bishop winner Capo Bastone, and G1 Arkansas Derby winner Danza. Only Tapit and Curlin have sired more three-year-old G1 winners on dirt since 2013, and no other sire has as many.
He's also the sire of 2016 American Oaks winner Decked Out, who stays in training for 2017 with her ultimate aim being the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Del Mar, and G1 Newmarket Handicap winner The Quarterback in Australia.
Street Boss is booked full for 2017.
