Son of Street Boss The Quarterback added another Group victory to his record in the Gilgai Stakes over 1200m at Flemington on Sunday 2 October.
Run up the famous Flemington straight the race is registered as the VRC Baguette Stakes, and this years’ edition was dominated by the progeny of Darley sires. While The Quarterback found cover throughout the running and raced away at the 300 metre mark for an imposing victory, rivals We’ve Got This (Hard Spun), Durendal (Medaglia d’Oro) and Darley homebred Generalife (Lonhro) finished well ahead of the remainder of the field.
The Quarterback was fittingly bred by Gilgai Farm and the gelding is out of the winning mare Soorena. His half-brother Philippi is a multiple G2 winner of the Tulloch Stakes and the Alister Clark Stakes.
A previous winner of the G1 Newmarket Handicap at the same track, The Quarterback is a top performer for his sire Street Boss. Among his other leading progeny are Cathryn Sophia, Danza and Capo Bastone.
