Zenyatta stretched her unbeaten run even farther with her greatest victory to date in the G1 Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic at Santa Anita.
The four-year-old Street Cry filly, who is owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, has now won nine from nine, including four victories at the highest level.
In customary fashion, the statuesque dark brown filly broke steadily from the gate and settled in the rear of the field in the early stages. Just as her many fans have come to expect, she wound up the tempo round the home turn, slashing past her opponents with a devastating turn of foot to score in imperious fashion. Early reports indicate that she will remain in training as a five-year-old.
Zenyatta kicked off what could be a memorable weekend for Street Cry and his Australian-bred son Whobegotyou, who won the G1 Caulfield Guineas on his last start, followed up in fine style by winning the G2 Moonee Valley Vase, thus ensuring that he will start a red-hot favourite for next Saturday's Victoria Derby.
His jockey Michael Rodd said after the race: "He just went so easily. It's scary how good this horse is." It's a comment that could equally be applied to the remarkable Zenyatta.
Elusive Quality looks to have an extremely promising juvenile among his UK runners in the form of Evasive, who took the G3 Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury for his second win in only three starts. The chestnut colt represents Britain's leading owner/breeder Cheveley Park Stud, who bought him in utero when purchasing his dam Canda for $2.4m at Keeneland. Canda, by Storm Cat, is a grand-daughter of the great Miesque.
Still to come at Santa Anita for Street Cry are Street Boss in the G1 Breeders' Cup Sprint and Street Hero in the Juvenile. Elusive Quality will be represented by Raven's Pass, who takes on the mighty Curlin in the Classic.
