Nash took command in the stretch on his way to drawing off to a five-and-a-half length victory in the $200,000 Hot Springs Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Saturday, 23 March.
The three-year-old Medaglia d’Oro colt earned his first Stakes victory in the Hot Springs and has never been out of the money in six career starts.
Patiently handled by jockey Florent Geroux, Nash raced well off the pace set by Frost Free (Frosted) through the early stages of the race. Nash began to close ground on the leaders on the far turn, before taking command at the top of the stretch. He then pulled away through the lane while geared down, eventually crossing the wire to win easily.
Nash was bred in Kentucky and races as a homebred for Godolphin. He is out of the Malibu Moon mare, Sara Louise, winner of the G2 Top Flight Handicap, G3 Victory Ride and G3 Pocahontas Stakes. In addition to Nash, Sara Louise is the dam of Stakes winner Spa City and Graded Stakes-placed Sara Street, both by fellow Darley stallion, Street Sense.
In addition to Nash, Medaglia d’Oro is the sire of Delahaye, winner of the Listed Tom Benson Memorial Stakes and Kallos, winner of the G2 Rubiton Stakes in Australia. Medaglia d’Oro is also the sire of Hong Kong superstar, Golden Sixty, who won this third consecutive G1 Hong Kong Mile earlier this year.
Medaglia d’Oro is standing the 2024 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $75,000, stands and nurses.
