Good Cheer remains perfect with powerful performance in G2 Fair Grounds Oaks

Next stop the G1 Kentucky Oaks for daughter of Medaglia d’Oro

Good Cheer ran her record to a perfect six-for-six with an impressive three-and-a-half length victory in the G2 Fasig-Tipton Fair Grounds Oaks on Saturday, 22 March.

The victory was the fourth straight Stakes win for the daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, who has risen to the top of the three-year-old filly division. Good Cheer will likely make her next start in the G1 Kentucky Oaks on 2 May.

At the start it was Ahavah that broke on top and went right to the lead. She was soon joined by Her Laugh, as Gowells Delight and Good Cheer sat just behind the leading pair in third and fourth, respectively. Good Cheer kept within striking distance of the leaders down the backstretch and into the far turn, then took command at the top of the lane and began to open up.

The Godolphin homebred was kept to her task in the final furlong, eventually crossing the wire an easy winner. Ahavah finished second, with Gowells Delight taking third.

Good Cheer was bred in Kentucky and is out of the multiple G1-winning Street Sense mare, Wedding Toast. During her racing career for Godolphin, Wedding Toast captured both the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes and G1 Beldame, in addition to winning the G2 Ruffian and G3 Comely. In addition to Good Cheer, Wedding Toast is also the dam of the Stakes-winning colt, Ya Hayati (by Dubawi).

Good Cheer is one of a handful recent Stakes winners for Medaglia d’Oro, joining Spirit of St Louis, winner of the G1 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational and Nitrogen, winner of the G3 Florida Oaks. Overseas, the stallion is represented by Meshtri, winner of both the G2 Al Maktoum Mile and Listed Dubai Creek Mile at Meydan.

Medaglia d’Oro is standing the 2025 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $75,000, stands and nurses.
