The last race on the card at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day, the G3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes, produced a Darley-sired 1-2 finish with Street Boss mare Scarlet Billows defeating Lonhro’s daughter Wawail.
Scarlet Billows settled in sixth position in the early stages before moving into the race strongly entering the home straight. The five-year-old dashed to the lead at the 200m mark before going on to defeat Wawail by two-and-a-half lengths.
Scarlet Billows capped off a big day for her trainer Darren Weir and owner John Richards who earlier in the day won the G1 Melbourne Cup with Prince Of Penzance.
Bred by Fred Borg, Scarlet Billows is the only foal to race out of winning Hussonet mare Hushabye Baby, a daughter of G3 winner Smytzer’s Rivalry.
Scarlet Billows is the 20th Stakes winner worldwide for Street Boss who is the sire of G1 King's Bishop Stakes winner Capo Bastone and G1 Arkansas Derby hero Danza.
Street Boss will stand the coming season at Jonabell Farm at a fee of $12,500 live foal, stands and nurses.
