Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia returned from a well-deserved summer break and rolled to an impressive six-and-a-half length victory in the Princess of Sylmar Stakes at Parx Racing Sept. 3.
The three-year-old daughter of Street Boss, who was making her first start since a third-place finish in the G1 Acorn Stakes, moved into contention on the far turn before pulling away in the stretch to win under a hand-ride. The next start for Cathryn Sophia will be an exciting matchup against the undefeated Songbird (by Medaglia d’Oro) in the G1 Cotillion Sept. 24.
Bred in Maryland by Robert T. Manfuso, Cathryn Sophia is out of Sheave, an unraced daughter of Horse of the Year Mineshaft. Sheave is out of G2 Golden Rod Stakes winner Belterra, and is a half-sister to Stakes winner Taketheodds (by Street Sense).
Cathryn Sophia is one of 25 Stakes winners for her sire Street Boss. Street Boss has also sired the G1 winners Capo Bastone, Danza, and The Quarterback. In the U.S., no sire standing for under $20,000 had more blacktype winners in all of 2015.
