Belle of the North, last for most of the race, got herself in front when it counted to earn her first Stakes win, taking the Listed Safely Kept Stakes by a half-length at Laurel Park Nov. 27.
It was just the sixth career start for the three-year-old daughter of Street Boss, who has now won twice and finished in-the-money four times.
Breaking a step slowly out of the starting gate, Belle of the North trailed the field as Malibu Beauty and Prodigy Doll set the early pace. Belle of the North, who had been saving ground along the inside rail, swung to the five path in upper stretch and closed determinedly on the leaders through the stretch, finally getting herself in front at the wire to win by a half-length.
Belle of the North was bred in Kentucky by Adena Springs and races as a homebred for Stronach Stables. She is out the mare Harley Rose, an unraced half-sister to Champion and Horse of the Year, Zenyatta (by Street Cry). Harley Rose is also a half-sister to multiple G1 winner Balance, and to Stakes winner Where’s Bailey, dam of G2 Yellow Ribbon winner, She’s Not Here (Street Cry).
Belle of the North is the 11th North American Stakes winner this year for Street Boss. In addition to the Safely Kept winner, Street Boss has sired additional Stakes winners Ellamira (Golden Gate Debutante), Lady War Machine (Alywow Stakes), New Boss (Pea Patch Overnight Stakes, Allen ‘Black Cat’ Lecombe Memorial Stakes) and Lady Edith (Mamzelle Stakes).
In Australia, Street Boss is represented by the outstanding three-year-old colt Anamoe, winner of the G1 Caulfield Guineas and Elite Street, a prior G1 winner who recently captured the G3 Prince of Wales Stakes.
Street Boss will stand the 2022 breeding season at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for $15,000, stands and nurses.
