Balk prevails in Fitz Dixon Stakes

Balk, a two-year-old gelded son of Street Boss, captured his second straight Stakes victory when winning the Fitz Dixon, Jr. Memorial Juvenile Stakes at Presque Isle Downs on October 6th.  He was coming off a strong win in the Mark McDermott Stakes at Presque Isle in his most recent start a month earlier.

In the six-and-one-half furlong contest, Balk broke alertly and went straight to the front, stretching out to a two-length lead in the stretch before holding off a late challenge from Twirling Tiger to win by a half-length. 

Bred in Pennsylvania by his owner, The Elkstone Group LLC, Balk is out of the Dixie Union mare Countingoncarolyn.  His second dam, Kota, captured the Listed Anna M. Fisher Debutante and was second in the G2 Golden Rod Stakes.

Street Boss is the sire of 14 black-type performers in 2015, among them G2 Amsterdam Stakes winner Holy Boss, G3 El Camino Real Derby winner Metaboss, and multiple Stakes winner Soul Driver.  The sire’s best runners lifetime include G1 Arkansas Derby winner Danza and G1 King’s Bishop Stakes winner Capo Bastone.
