Desert Party put himself in the UAE 2,000 Guineas frame with an assured victory on his first start for Godolphin at Nad Al Sheba. The three-year-old Street Cry colt was a Grade Two winner in the US last year when trained by Eoin Harty, having landed the Sanford Stakes at Saratoga on only his second racecourse outing. Three of the last four winners of the Ford Flex Trophy, a conditions race run over seven furlong (1400m), have gone on to land the UAE 2,000 Guineas, which takes place in the second week of February.
Bred by David Smith and Steven Sinatra, Desert Party carried a $2.1m price tag at the two-year-olds in training sale at Fasig-Tipton Calder. He is out of the Tabasco Cat mare Sage Cat and is a half-brother to Choucroute S winner Elliecat.
Street Cry was also represented last season by G1-winning juvenile Street Hero, and another son Street Sense, now standing at Darley, was himself a top-class juvenile and the first horse ever to go on to win the Kentucky Derby after triumphing in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Other Stakes-winning two-year-olds by Street Cry include Cry And Catch Me, Street Sounds, Sarthemare, Big Timer and Globetrotter.
