Two-year-old Sweet And Lowdown, a daughter of Street Sense, convincingly broke her maiden at Arlington Park July 10 in a five and one-half furlong maiden event. Sent off as the heavy 1-2 favorite, Sweet And Lowdown became the second winner for her first season sire.
Breaking quickly, Sweet And Lowdown dashed straight to the lead out of the gate. The Wesley Ward trained filly showcased her talent with tremendous speed and extended her lead in the stretch for an effortless victory under Corey Nakatani.
The Street Sense filly was bred in Kentucky by Fares Farm. She is a daughter of Mombasa, by Dynaformer, who is a half-sister to G2 winner Funistrada. The filly's second dam, Mesabi, is a half-sister to Champion and Leading Sire Cozzene.
Street Sense, a son of Street Cry, is the only horse that can boast the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and G1 Kentucky Derby double. He is the Eclipse Champion Two-Year-Old Colt of his generation, and the leading first crop sire at the sales - with yearlings up to $435,000. His first winner was Street Hunter, who scored well at Kyoto on July 9.
