Post Time romps in $100,000 Polynesian Stakes at Laurel Park

Four-year-old Frosted colt returns victorious to his home track

Multiple Graded Stakes winner, Post Time, who was G1-placed in his two prior starts, returned to his homebase of Laurel Park for the first time since February and overpowered four rivals with an impressive eleven-and-a-half length victory in the $100,000 Polynesian Stakes on Saturday, 14 September.

Making his first start since a sharp third-place finish in the G1 Whitney at Saratoga, the four-year-old son of Frosted has never been worse than third in 13 lifetime starts, with nine of them victories.

At the start it was Frightland, a stablemate of Post Time, who shot out of the gate to take the lead. He was pressed by Ain’t Da Beer Cold as that pair opened up several lengths on the field. Post Time, who was off a step slowly, trailed the field early, but jockey Sheldon Russell moved the colt into contention on the far turn, moving into third while saving ground along the rail.

Frightland continued to cling to a short lead rounding the far turn when Post Time came off the rail and moved alongside followed on his right by Debit Card (Will Take Charge). The three ran in tandem to the top of the stretch, when Russell asked Post Time to go and the grey colt asserted his class, gaining separation once straightened for home and rolling home under a hand ride.

Curlin’s Malibu closed late for second, with Debit Card settling for third.

Bred in Maryland by Dr. & Mrs. Thomas Bowman, Dr. Brooke Bowman and Milton P. Higgins III, Post Time is out of the mare Vielsalm, a Stakes-winning daughter of Fairbanks. Vielsalm is a full sister to Stakes-placed Open the Bank, and hails from the family of G1 winners Rose’s Cantina and Fancy Naskra.

Post Time is one of nine Stakes winners this year for his sire, Frosted, who has also been represented by Graded Stakes winners Frost Free (G3 Chick Lang Stakes), Frost At Dawn (G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint) and Bustling, a three-time Graded Stakes winner in Australia.
