In hindsight, it appears that the toughest battle for Miss Jeopardy was just drawing into the race from the also-eligible list. Once her place in the starting gate was secured, the promising youngster by Enticed did the rest, taking command in the stretch and drawing off to win a six-furlong maiden contest by three-quarters of a length at Oaklawn Park on Sunday, 31 December.
Miss Jeopardy brought the curtain down on a successful 2023 for her freshman sire, who was represented with 24 first-crop winners.
Patiently ridden by jockey Julien Leparoux, Miss Jeopardy raced off the pace in sixth through the early stages of the race. Making her bid on the far turn while racing four-wide, Miss Jeopardy overhauled pacemaker Pleasingly a furlong from the wire and pulled away. She had plenty left in the tank to hold off the late bid from Spiritual Lady to win by three-parts of a length.
Bred in Kentucky by McKenzie Bloodstock, Miss Jeopardy is out of Word Association, a Stakes-placed daughter of Benchmark. Word Association is a full sister to the Stakes winner/Graded Stakes-placed Stella Mark, and hails from the immediate family of G1 winners Lilacs and Lace (G1 Ashland Stakes) and Lucky Lilac (Champion Two-year-old filly in Japan; G1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup, etc.).
In addition to Miss Jeopardy, Enticed is also represented by the promising Shimmering Allure, winner of the Listed Tempted Stakes at Aqueduct and second in the G2 Demoiselle. Enticed’s first crop also includes the Stakes-placed Tambo and Inveigled, along with such MSW winners as Darkroom, Sugar Treat and Visually.
Enticed will stand the 2024 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $5,000, stands and nurses.
