Nyquist's Xigera took the lead at the top of the stretch and cruised to a six-and-a-half length victory in the G3 Falls City Stakes, the Thanksgiving Day feature at Churchill Downs on November 23.
Xigera broke well as the 1-9 favorite in the nine-furlong dirt contest and settled in third on the outside for most of the race. She moved up around the turn and pulled away through the stretch to win easily under jockey Julien Leparoux for trainer Philip Bauer. Music Street, a four-year-old daughter of Street Sense, completed the Darley-sired exacta.
It was the second consecutive Graded Stakes victory and sixth career win for the three-year-old daughter of Nyquist, who won the G2 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont at the Big A in her previous start.
Bred in Kentucky by Cedar Hill LLC, Xigera is out of Argent Affair, a Stakes-winning daughter of Black Tie Affair. In addition to Xigera, Argent Affair has produced Graded Stakes winner Forty Under (Uncle Mo) and Graded Stakes-placed Myriskyaffair (Verrazano).
Xigera continues a banner year for her sire Nyquist, who is also represented by G1 winners Randomized and Slow Down Andy, G2 winners New York Thunder and Crimson Advocate, and unbeaten juvenile TDN Rising Stars Knightsbridge and Nysos, recent dominant winner of the G3 Bob Hope Stakes at Del Mar.
Nyquist will stand the 2024 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $85,000, stands and nurses.
