Tenacious Tenma gets the victory in G2 Santa Anita Oaks

Three-year-old Nyquist filly improves record to five wins in six starts

Baoma Corp.’s Tenma punched her ticket to the G1 Kentucky Oaks with a sharp two-and-a-quarter length victory in the G2 Fasig-Tipton Santa Anita Oaks on Saturday, 5 April.

The victory was the third straight Graded Stakes win for the three-year-old daughter of Nyquist, and she improved her overall record to five wins from six starts. The win also earned Tenma 75 points toward a spot in the starting gate for the Kentucky Oaks on 2 May.

Making her first start since easily winning the G3 Fasig-Tipton Las Virgenes Stakes on 2 Feb., Tenma was content to stalk the early pace set by her stablemate, Silent Law, through the early stages of the race. Moving into contention while racing three-wide on the far turn, Tenma took command in the upper stretch and drew off for the victory. Silent Law was second and Vodka With a Twist finished third.

Bred in Kentucky by B. Flay Thoroughbreds, Tenma is out of Amagansett, an unraced daughter of Tapit. Second dam is the Stakes winner, Twirl (Galileo), a full sister to Champions Misty For Me (G1 Irish One Thousand Guineas, etc.) and Ballydoyle (G1 Prix Marcel Boussac). Tenma was purchased by her connections for $850,000 at the 2024 OBS April Two-Year-Old Sale.

Nyquist is off to a strong start once again this year, with Tenma joining Cavalieri as multiple Graded Stakes winners in 2025. Four-year-old Cavalieri is undefeated in her career and boasts victories in the G1 Beholder Mile and G3 La Canada Stakes. Waiting in the wings is Immersive, the undefeated Eclipse Award-winning Champion juvenile filly of 2024, who has yet to debut this season.

Nyquist is standing the 2025 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $175,000, stands and nurses.
