It took a little bit of help from the stewards, but Savage Dragon was declared the victor in a five-and-a-half-furlong, maiden contest at Parx Racing on Tuesday, 5 September. The two-year-old colt became the ninth winner for his freshman sire, Enticed.
Making his third career start, Savage Dragon broke sharply and was settled off the pace as Nuedorf went to the front to set the pace. Nuedorf continued to lead the way into the stretch, where he began to race erratically and drifted out, impeding several of his rivals, including Savage Dragon, who had moved into second.
Nuedorf crossed the wire three-quarters of a length ahead of Savage Dragon but was disqualified for interference and placed third. Savage Dragon was awarded the victory, with Jesus’ Dream second.
Savage Dragon was bred in Florida by Michelle Redding. He is out of the winning Malibu Moon mare, Moon and Sun, and is a half-brother to G3 Chick Lang Stakes winner, Lightening Larry. Moon and Sun is a half-sister to the multiple Stakes-winning pair of Palanka City (G3 Miss Preakness Stakes) and Quick Action.
Enticed is the sire of eight other winners from his first crop, including five on debut. His runners are winning from coast to coast and on all surfaces – turf, dirt and synthetic. In addition to Savage Dragon, Enticed's other winners are Genuine Peril, Darkroom, Eloper, Demar’s Legacy, Sugar Treat, Desert Sand, Tambo and Zorina.
