Notary took command at the top of the stretch and drew off on his way to posting a five-and-a-half length victory in the Outbound Ike Handicap at Hawthorne Park on Thursday, 17 August.
It was the first Stakes win for the hard-knocking five-year-old Street Sense gelding, who has won four of his eight starts this season.
Notary broke well out of the starting gate and was settled into third, just behind the early pacesetters Buck Moon and Grey Streak. Notary continued to stalk the leading duo into the far turn before angling out three-wide to make his run. He quickly overhauled the leading duo and took the lead, pulling away to win convincingly.
Bred in Kentucky by John Gardiner and Frank McEntee, Notary is out of Ellesmere, a Stakes-placed daughter of Tabasco Cat. In addition to Notary, Ellesmere has produced multiple Graded Stakes winner Bridgetown (by Speightstown), and multiple Stakes winners Clement Rock (Strong Hope) and Carnacks Choice (Carson City). Notary’s second dam is Empress Aly (by Alydar), a full sister to G1 Kentucky Derby winner, Strike the Gold, and multiple Graded Stakes winner, Graydar.
