Kinetic storms to victory in General MacArthur Overnight Stakes at Oaklawn

Son of Street Sense breaks through to earn first Stakes win

Kinetic had to overcome both a stubborn opponent in Archie the Giza and his own inexperience in the stretch, but he was still able to get the job done and win the General MacArthur Overnight Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Saturday, 25 January.

It was the first Stakes victory for the four-year-old son of Street Sense, who entered the race off a runner-up finish in the Tenacious Stakes over the same strip in December. The victory improved Kinetic’s record to four wins in six starts.

Kinetic broke well and was forwardly placed by jockey Flavien Prat, as they were content to stalk the pacesetter, Archie the Giza, from second through the early stages of the race. Kinetic moved up to challenge Archie the Giza on the far turn, and stuck his head in front as the field entered the stretch.

Kinetic continued to battle a tiring Archie the Giza for the lead as he also began showing signs of fatigue, drifting in to bother his rival in the final yards. Kinetic eventually prevailed in a driving finish over a fast-closing Sir Greylind to win by three-quarters of a length.

Kinetic was bred in Kentucky by his owner, Godolphin. He is out of the Bernardini mare Collective, a full sister to G2 winner Penwith. In addition to Kinetic, Collective has produced two Graded Stakes-winning full siblings to the General MacArthur winner – brother Shared Sense, winner of the G3 Indiana Derby and G3 Oklahoma Derby and sister Comparative, winner of the G3 Bayakoa Stakes.

Street Sense is the sire of 102 Stakes winners lifetime and was the sire of four Graded Stakes winners in 2024: First Mission (G2 Alysheba Stakes, G3 Essex H.), Never Explain (G3 Tampa Bay Stakes), La Cara (G3 Pocahontas) and Comparative (G3 Bayakoa S.).

Street Sense will stand the 2025 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $50,000, stands and nurses.
