Although on the board in all five career starts, including two Stakes placings, Midshipman's three-year-old daughter Soft Talk had yet to enter the Stakes winner fraternity. But that changed on June 2nd when she came from off the pace to win the $100,000 Best of Ohio Queen City Oaks at Belterra Park.
Soft talk broke last of all and jockey Luis Rivera was content enough to let her relax in that spot until the field passed the half-mile pole. From there, she slowly started passing her rivals and then was able to run down the favorite at the top of the lane to win by eight widening lengths.
Bred by Hal Snowden, Jr., in Ohio, Soft Talk is a half-sister to multiple Stakes winner Big Truck, and her dam, Small Secret, is a half to Stakes winner Elkmont.
Midshipman doubled up today at Belterra as other daughter, Squid, was also much the best in the Best of Ohio Diana Stakes.
