Midshipman's juvenile daughter Back to Ohio broke her maiden in impressive fashion at Presque Isle back in June so she is no stranger to the Erie Pennsylvania oval. Subsequently, it was no big surprise when returning to that track on October 3rd for the Presque Isle Debutante that she once again found herself in the winner's circle after the race.
Back to Ohio broke very alertly under jockey Jareth Loveberry and was on top quickly after a quarter of a mile. From that moment on it was all BTO as she made every call a winning one and was geared down the latter part of the race.
Back to Ohio was bred in Ohio by Trail M Boarding & Guest Farm and is out of the Stakes-placed mare, Sheza Runaway Star. In addition to Back to Ohio, Sheza Runaway Star has also produced the Stakes-placed filly, Ucantkeepup. Sheza Runaway Star is a full sister to Stakes-placed Best Air and a half to multiple Stakes winner and track record-setter Rivers Run Deep.
Midshipman is the sire of 17 Stakes horses in 2022, including potential Breeders' Cup starter Fun and Feisty, winner of the "Win and You're In" G3 Pocahontas Stakes last out at Churchill Downs. However, you'll seen her next in the G1 Darley Alcibiades on October 7th. In addition to 2022 G2 winner Royal Ship, Midshipman is also the sire of other juvenile Stakes winner Top Recruit. No stallion standing for under $60k can top Midshipman's 16% Black Type horses from starters.
