Home Brew added a second Stakes victory to his growing resume when he rocketed to a six-and-a-quarter length win in the $150,000 Listed TVG Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday, 18 June.
The impressive score earned the three-year-old Street Sense colt a spot in the starting gate for the track’s signature event, the $1 million G1 TVG Haskell Invitational in July.
Making his first start since a sharp score in the Listed Oaklawn Stakes in April, Home Brew was settled into third, just behind the leading pair of Cyberviking and Electability as he saved ground along the inside rail. Home Brew continued to hug the inside rail until the far turn, when jockey Paco Lopez tipped him to the outside for a clear run at the leaders. Home Brew quickly took command at the top of the lane before pulling away in the stretch and coasting under the wire an easy winner.
Home Brew was bred in Kentucky by his owners Gary and Mary West, and is out of the winning Tapit mare, Omnitap. He is a full brother to Air Strike, winner of the G2 Triple Bend Stakes and hails from the family of G1 winner Gunite (G1 Hopeful Stakes) and the multiple Stakes winners Simplify, Classify, Classic Olympio and Optionality.
In addition to Home Brew, Street Sense is represented by the talented Speaker’s Corner, winner of three Graded Stakes so far this year, including a dominating five-length win in the G1 Carter Handicap in April. Additional Stakes winners include Australia Mia, winner of the G2 Clasico Carlos Campino in Chile; Heaven Street, winner of the Listed Columbia Stakes and Whelen Springs, winner of the Listed Bachelor Stakes at Oaklawn Park.
