Australia Mia took the lead midway through the stretch and pulled away from her rivals to post a three-length victory in the G2 Clasico Carlos Campino at Club Hipico in Chile on Friday, 27 May.
It was the first Group Stakes win for the four-year-old daughter of Street Sense, who was a two-time Listed winner as a three-year-old.
Breaking alertly out of the starting gate, Australia Mia settled into second, content to track Elegant Blanket through the early stages of the eight-furlong turf contest. Australia Mia made her move at the top of the home straight, rolling up to challenge Elegant Blanket for the lead. She soon put that rival away and began to draw off, eventually crossing the wire three lengths ahead of eventual runner-up, Giving Love.
Bred in Kentucky and racing as a homebred for Haras Don Alberto, Australia Mia is out of Listed Stakes winner and multiple Graded Stakes-placed Andina (by Singspiel). In addition to Australia Mia, Andina has produced Andina Del Sur (Giant’s Causeway), winner of the G3 Florida Oaks and Listed Violet Stakes.
In addition to Australia Mia, Street Sense is represented by the exciting Speaker’s Corner, who is undefeated in three starts in 2022 (all Graded Stakes). His most recent victory was a dominating five-length win in the G1 Carter Handicap on 9 April. Street Sense is also the sire of Heaven Street, winner of the Listed Columbia Stakes, Whelen Springs (Listed Bachelor Stakes) and Home Brew, winner of the Listed Oaklawn Stakes.
Street Sense is standing the 2022 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $75,000, stands and nurses.
