Lemieux sprinted to a clear lead soon after the start and never looked back as she pulled away to a six-and-a-half length victory in the Brethren Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Gulfstream Park Oct. 30.
The two-year-old daughter of Nyquist notched her first Stakes victory in the mile-and-seventy-yard contest and improved her record to two wins and two seconds in five career starts.
Lemieux was bred in Florida by Westbury Stables LLC and is a half-sister to the talented Brilliant Cut, who was third in the G2 Santa Ynez Stakes earlier this year. Both Lemieux and her older sibling are out of the mare Polish a Diamond, who is a half-sister to multiple G1 winner Diamondrella (G1 Just a Game, G1 Jenny Wiley) and the multiple G1-placed Bonnie Blue Flag. Also in the immediate female family is the brilliant colt, Life Is Good (G2 San Felipe, G2 Kelso, etc.).
The leading first crop sire of 2020, Nyquist's other Stakes winners include Eclipse Champion two-year-old filly Vequist, winner of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies; fellow G1 winner Gretzky the Great, Sovereign Award champion two-year-old; Curly Girl, winner of the Lady Fingers Stakes and Turnerloose, winner of the Aristocratic Stakes at Kentucky Downs. Nyquist's four first-crop juvenile G1 horses last year has only been matched by Bernardini, Congrats, and Capote.
