Minister came with a furious rally down the center of the course to take the Kranji Mile (a local Group 1) by a desperate head over Lim’s Lightning in Singapore May 22.
The five-year-old Street Sense gelding, a former Listed Stakes winner in the UK, provided trainer Donna Logan – a multiple-G1 winning trainer in New Zealand and Australia- with her first local Group 1 success.
Settled near the back of the field through the early stages of the race, Minister came charging down the center of the course under jockey Harry Kasim to deny rival Lim’s Lightning at the wire to earn the victory.
Bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm LLC, Minister (formerly named Bye Bye Hong Kong when racing in the UK) is out of Light and Variable, an unraced daughter of Tiznow. In addition to producing the Kranji Mile winner, Light and Variable is the dam of Stakes winner Samborella and Graded Stakes-placed Our Country. Light and Variable is a half-sister to Stakes winners Nonna Mela (G2 Adirondack Stakes) and Nonna Madeline, and hails from the immediate family of G1 winners Bluegrass Cat and Girolamo.
Minister is one of seven Stakes winners so far this year for his sire. In addition to the Kranji Mile winner, Street Sense has sired Maxfield (G2 Alysheba Stakes), Concert Tour (G2 Rebel, etc.), Zaajel (G3 Forward Gal Stakes), Windmill (Dixie Belle Stakes), Capo Kane (Jerome Stakes) and Hollis (Stonerside Sprint).
Street Sense is standing the 2021 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $60,000, stands and nurses.
