Concert Tour took the lead right out of the gate and never relinquished it on his way to an impressive four-and-a-quarter-length victory in the G2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park March 13.
The victory kept the son of Street Sense perfect in three career starts and earned him 50 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.
Making his first start outside of California for his connections, Concert Tour entered the Rebel off a win in the seven-furlong G2 San Vicente at Santa Anita. The Rebel Stakes marked the Bob Baffert trainee’s first attempt around two turns, which he ended up passing with flying colors.
Concert Tour broke alertly and went straight to the front under jockey Joel Rosario. He was followed closely by Caddo River (Hard Spun), who tucked right in behind the leader as the field entered the clubhouse turn. Concert Tour set reasonable fractions as he continued to lead on the backstretch and into the far turn. Caddo River rolled up alongside and briefly challenged Concert Tour, but the dark bay colt quickly shrugged off that rival and drew off through the stretch to win easily while under a hand-ride.
Concert Tour was bred in Kentucky by his owners, Gary and Mary West. He is out of the winning Tapit mare Purse Strings, and hails from the family of Champion Stardom Bound (G1 Santa Anita Oaks, G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, etc.).
Concert Tour is one of six Stakes winners so far this year for his sire, Street Sense. In addition to the Rebel winner, Street Sense has sired Maxfield (G3 Mineshaft), Zaajel (G3 Forward Gal Stakes), Windmill (Dixie Belle Stakes), Capo Kane (Jerome Stakes) and Hollis (Stonerside Sprint).
Street Sense is standing the 2021 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $60,000, stands and nurses.
