In The Navy held off the late charge of Magic Vow to win the Louisiana Cup Turf Classic by a half-length at Louisiana Downs 4 Aug.
The four-year-old gelding provided Midshipman with his second Stakes winner of the day. Earlier in the afternoon, Big Changes captured the WV House of Delegates Speaker’s Cup Stakes at Mountaineer Park.
Breaking sharply out of the starting gate, In The Navy stalked leader Sir Genghis through the opening half-mile. Heading into the far turn, In The Navy moved up to challenge Sir Genghis, and the pair matched battled each other as they entered the home straight. With just over a furlong to run, In The Navy put away Sir Genghis, then had enough left in the tank to hold off a late challenge from Magic Vow to win by a half-length.
Bred in Louisiana by his owner, Kendel Standlee, In The Navy is out of Southern Princess, by Dixieland Band. In The Navy hails from the female family of Stakes winners Pleasantly Free, Dixie Pearl and Cornish Snow.
In addition to In The Navy, Midshipman is represented by Big Changes, a two-time Stakes winner thus far in 2018. Midshipman is also the sire of the talented three-year-old filly, Sassy Sienna, winner of the G3 Fantasy Stakes earlier this year.
