Tiger Moth made a successful start to the year when she charged from last-to-first to win the G3 Houston Ladies Classic by a neck January 28.
It was the second Graded Stakes victory for the daughter of Street Sense, who captured the G3 Groupie Doll Stakes last year. In addition to that Graded Stakes win, Tiger Moth was also second in the G2 Falls City Handicap and third in the G3 Locust Grove in 2017.
Racing in last through the early stages of the race, Tiger Moth began her rally on the far turn, closing rapidly while racing five-wide. As the field entered the homestretch, Tiger Moth continued her charge, sweeping past the leaders in deep stretch to post a neck victory.
Bred in Kentucky by her owner John D. Gunther, Tiger Moth is out of the winning Sir Cat mare, Saratoga Cat. Tiger Moth is a half-sister to millionaire Last Gunfighter, winner of the G2 Hawthorne Gold Cup and G3 Pimlico Special. London Mist, another half-sister to Tiger Moth, is the dam of Dancing Belle, second in the G2 Sorrento Stakes last fall.
Street Sense has sired over 50 career Stakes winners, including multiple G1 winners Sweet Reason and Wedding Toast along with the outstanding Australian colt Hallowed Crown. Street Sense is also the sire of the promising three-year-old colts, McKinzie, recent winner of the G3 Sham Stakes and winner of the G1 Los Alamitos Futurity last year, and Avery Island, winner of the G2 Nashua Stakes and runner-up in the G2 Remsen at age two.
Street Sense will stand the 2018 breeding season for $35,000, stands and nurses, at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky.
