Tower Of Texas rallied from just off the pace to win the Listed Colonel E.R. Bradley Handicap at Fair Grounds January 13.
The Colonel E.R. Bradley was the first start of the year for the gelded son of Street Sense, who now has been in-the-money in 20 of his 28 lifetime starts.
Breaking alertly under jockey Florent Geroux, Tower Of Texas was content to stalk the leaders from midpack through the early stages of the race. As the field entered the far turn, Tower Of Texas began making his move while saving ground along the inside rail.
At the top of the stretch, Saham still held a slight lead, but several rivals were gaining on him, including Tower Of Texas. The Street Sense gelding was making up ground rapidly after having been moved into the clear out near the center of the turf course. With less than a furlong to run, Tower Of Texas overhauled the frontrunner and eventually pulled away to win by one-and-a-half lengths.
Bred by Anderson Farms (Ontario) Inc. & Rod Ferguson, Tower Of Texas is out of G2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes-placed mare Rare Opportunity, also the dam of Graded Stakes winner Street Sounds (Street Cry) and Stakes winner Silver Highlight.
Street Sense has sired over 50 career Stakes winners, including multiple G1 winners Sweet Reason and Wedding Toast along with the outstanding Australian colt Hallowed Crown. Street Sense is also the sire of the promising three-year-old colts, McKinzie, recent winner of the G3 Sham Stakes and winner of the G1 Los Alamitos Futurity last year, and Avery Island, winner of the G2 Nashua Stakes and runner-up in the G2 Remsen at age two.
Street Sense will stand the 2018 breeding season for $35,000, stands and nurses, at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky.
