T Loves A Fight split rivals at the top of the stretch and reeled in favored Syndergaard on his way to capturing the seven-furlong Mike Lee Stakes by two-and-a-quarter lengths at Belmont Park.
Settled at the rear of the field through the early stages, the three-year-old gelding by Girolamo began his rally on the far turn, making up ground rapidly on the leader as he split rivals. At the top of the stretch, T Loves A Fight was in second and closing swiftly on leader Syndergaard. He overtook the longtime leader in the stretch and pulled away to win convincingly.
T Loves A Fight was bred in New York by his owner, Hoffman Thoroughbreds LLC. The gelding is out of Worth Fighting For, a winning daughter of Broken Vow. His second dam is G2 Ladies Handicap winner, Wortheroatsingold, who has also produced Daylight Savings, winner of the G3 Oceanport Handicap.
Girolamo now has sired 58 winners to date, led by 2017 multiple Graded Stakes winner Highway Star (G2 Ruffian, G3 Distaff Handicap). Other talented runners by Girolamo include G1-placed She’s All Ready and Stakes winners Louisville First and Libreta.
