Despite it only being just his second career start, Crawdaddy showed plenty of poise as he rallied in the stretch to win the New York Stallion Stakes-Spectacular Bid Division at Belmont Park June 25.
Racing just off the pace in fourth through the early stages of the race, the three-year-old son of Girolamo lost a bit of ground on the far turn when he got into tight quarters. Entering the stretch, Crawdaddy began to rally, splitting rivals before edging clear to win by three-quarters of a length. Another son of Girolamo, T Loves A Fight, closed strongly to finish third.
Bred in New York by Dutchess Views Farm and SGO Thoroughbred LLC, Crawdaddy was a $110,000 purchase at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga New York-bred preferred yearling sale. He is out of Rare Edition, an unraced daughter of Street Sense that is a half-sister to G1 Atto Mile and G2 Maker’s Mark Mile winner, Touch Of The Blues.
Girolamo now has sired 60 winners to date, led by 2017 Stakes winners Highway Star (G2 Ruffian, G3 Distaff Handicap, 3rd G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes) and T Loves A Fight (Mike Lee Stakes). Other talented runners by Girolamo include G1-placed She’s All Ready and Stakes winners Louisville First and Libreta.
