Lucky number seven for Girolamo!
In the second race at Finger Lakes on August 20th, the two Girolamo-sired colts Boilermaker and Saratoga Giro were ranked first and second by their odds on the tote board, respectively, but at the end of the five-furlong maiden event, it was the first-time starter Saratoga Giro getting the better of the other for his first career win.
Saratoga Giro sprinted quickly to the lead and made very call a winning one while Boilermaker chased the winner in second place the entire way before rounding out the Girlamo-sired exacta.
Bred by Jonath Mendean, Inc., in New York, Saratoga Giro out of the Silver Deputy mare White Slippers, a half-sister to Stakes-placed Miss Olivia Rae.
Saratoga Giro’s win marks the fifth winner for his sire since August 7th when She’s All Ready became a TDN Rising Star with a brilliant, eight and one-quarter-length victory at Saratoga. With three additional progeny reaching the winner’s circle there to date, no other freshman has sired more winners at the current meet. All seven of Girolamo's winners have won on debut, including Belmont Maiden Special winner Lucky Lurie, also Stakes-placed at that New York track.
