Stormy Regatta sails down the stretch at Monmouth
Following a less than spectacular start to her career when finishing off the board in her career debut on the dirt in March of this year, Midshipman's Stormy Regatta has blossomed on the turf. With her gusty win in the Little Silver Stakes at Monmouth on July 26th, she now has won three of her last four, all on the spinach, and is the latest Stakes winner for her sire.
Never one to challenge the leaders early on, the three-year old filly once again found herself near the back of the pack as the early part of the Little Silver unfolded. She caught up with the front runners once the field entered the stretch but had to fight her way past the last challenger in route to her first career added-money win.
Bred by Pleasant Hill Partners in Kentucky, Stormy Regatta was produced from the A.P. Indy mare Storm Front. Storm Front is a full sister to Stakes-placed Indy Trouble and half-sister to G2 winner Utopian.
Midshipman, Eclipse Champion at two and Breeders' Cup Juvenile record setter, has seen his stock rise with continued success from his first crop, now sophomores of 2015. He's among the leaders in his sire crop by earnings and sits atop this same group by percentage of Stakes winners from starters.
