Wedding Toast rings in the G2 Ruffian Stakes
Cheers were in order May 9 as five-year-old Street Sense mare Wedding Toast impressed in the G2 Ruffian Stakes at Belmont Park. It was the second Graded Stakes win for the mare, who took the G3 Comely Stakes as a three-year-old.
Sent off as the 3-5 favorite in the one-mile race, Wedding Toast tracked leaders in fourth along the outside. Gradually advancing around the far turn, the mare made her bid at the top of the stretch and extended herself down the lane to pull away with the strong win.
Wedding Toast is out of the Coronado's Quest mare Golden Sheba, a half-sister to five-time G1 winner Congaree and Stakes winner and G1-placed Sangaree. The mare was bred in Kentucky by Darley.
Street Sense has had a fantastic year thus far in 2015, with two G1 winners in Las Virgenes Stakes winner Callback and Randwick Guineas winner Hallowed Crown. Other Graded Stakes winners for the sire include G1 winners Sweet Reason and Aubby K, this year's G3 Mineshaft Handicap winner Street Babe and G3 Delta Downs Jackpot winner Ocho Ocho Ocho.
Street Sense stands for $35,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
