75 Stakes winner and counting
The victory by Big Timer in the G3 Acomb Stakes at York in August of 2006 got his Street Cry off the mark becoming his first career Stakes winner (his second was Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense). Fast forward to this afternoon at Maisons-Laffitte in France and other son Daraybi helped Street Cry reach yet another milestone – Stakes winner number 75 – in winning the Listed Prix Marchand d’Or.
Daraybi was held up in the early going while eventual making up ground over the straight, 1300 meter course. Once he gained his best stride, he did so under a confident ride and only had to be nudged along to break clear of the pack to win easily.
Daraybi, previously Stakes-placed in the G3 Prix des Chenes, is a homebred owned by H H Aga Khan and was born in France. Daraybi is out of the multiple G1 winner Daryaba and he is a half-brother to G1 winner Daryakana and G2 winner Daramsar as well as the Stakes-placed Daryamar.
Street Cry is the sire of 45 career Group or Graded winners, including Horse of the Year Zenyatta, the aforementioned Street Sense and multiple G1 winner Street Boss, both of which have now sired two G1 winners each, in addition to promising freshman sire Desert Party, now already with two winners from his first crop in North America.
