Wedding Toast stays engaged in victory at Belmont
Coming off of a powerful fourteen and one-half-length victory at Belmont last out, Street Sense’s talented three-year-old filly Wedding Toast, owned by Godolphin, didn’t disappoint as the 2-5 favorite when drawing off in the stretch to win by four lengths. She has now won three consecutive starts having placed second in her debut.
Off a bit slow out of the gate, jockey Javier Castellano had a snug hold on the dark bay or brown filly and kept her in third place down the backstretch and into the turn. Once the field straightened out for home, Wedding Toast was able to gain the lead under hand urging and was extending her advantage at the wire.
Wedding Toast is out of the Coronado’s Quest mare Golden Sheeba, a half-sister to five-time G1 winner Congaree and Stakes winner/G1-placed Sangaree.
Street Sense is having a remarkable year in 2013 and is currently atop the least of leading third crop sires by progeny earnings. His 10 other Stakes winner this year include G1 winners Aubby K and Sweet Reason who is headed towards the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies as the favorite. Unlimited Budget is a G2 winner and G1-placed this year while Fleet Street, Cigar Street and Ice Cream Silence have all won in G3 company.
