Wedding Toast proves much the best in the G1 Beldame
Wedding Toast solidified her claim as the top older filly or mare on the East Coast with a dominant, wire-to-wire victory in the Grade 1 Beldame Stakes at Belmont Park.
It was the third consecutive graded stakes win for the daughter of Street Sense, and her second G1 in a row. The five-year-old mare captured the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes in her last start.
Breaking sharply from the gate, Wedding Toast was sent immediately to the front, and was allowed to set a leisurely pace through the race. As the field hit the top of the stretch, Wedding Toast began to pull away to win easily.
The daughter of Street Sense is out of Golden Sheba, by Coronado's Quest, a half-sister to five-time G1 winner Congaree and Stakes winner and G1-placed Sangaree. Wedding Toast was bred in Kentucky by Darley.
Street Sense continues to have a terrific year of runners, one that has been headlined by dual G1 Stakes winner Wedding Toast, G1 Las Virgenes Stakes winner Callback, Australian G1 winner Hallowed Crown, and G2 King Edward Stakes victor Tower Of Texas. He has 5 G1 horses in 2015, more than all other stallions except Tapit, War Front, and Medaglia d’Oro.
