Sweet stakes victory for daughter of Street Sense

When Ice Cream Silence crossed the wire first on May 26th at Churchill in the Optimistic Gal Stakes, it brought back memories of her sire’s unforgettable performances when winning both the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Kentucky Derby under the twin spires of the Louisville, Kentucky oval. Street Sense still remains the only horse to have completed that historic double.

But today’s spoils go to his three-year-old daughter who brought to three her number of victories in 2012 with her “workmanlike” win in the one and one-sixteenth mile event. Satisfied to settle in second for most of the early going, jockey Brian Hernandez, Jr., urged the sophomore filly on as the field approached the stretch and widened her lead under a loose handride during the final furlong to win by five widening lengths.

Ice Cream Silence is out of the G3-placed Double Scoop, an earner of over $250,000, and half-sister to the dams of G2 winner Adriano and other Stakes winner Plagiarist. Double Scoop is out of G1 Santa Oaks winner Golden Threat.

Street Sense, by other Darley stallion Street Cry, is also sire of G3 winners Castaway and Motor City as well as G1 Frizette third Miss Netta, all from his first crop now racing at three.

He currently stands for $40,000, live foal, stand and nurses.
