Studlydoright reeled in pacesetter Tony Eclipse in the final furlong to earn a half-length victory in the Listed $150,000 Nashua Stakes at Belmont at the Big A on Saturday, 2 November.
The two-year-old Nyquist colt recorded his second Stakes win in the Nashua; the chestnut also won the Listed Tremont Stakes at Saratoga in June. In between the two victories he was placed in both the G3 Sanford and the Laurel Futurity.
Sporting blinkers for the first time, Studlydoright broke well from post three and tracked pacesetter Tony Eclipse from third through the early stages of the eight-furlong contest. Tony Eclipse continued to maintain the lead through the far turn, hugging the rail as Studlydoright looked for racing room.
Jockey Xavier Perez swung Studlydoright out and into the clear and the colt responded, eventually reeling in Tony Eclipse in deep stretch to take the lead. He comfortably held off a late challenge from Vekoma Rides to win by a half-length.
Studlydoright was bred in Maryland by Glenangus Farm. He is out of the SW/Graded-placed mare Peach of a Gal, who is a half to SW/Graded-placed Concealed Identity and to two other Stakes horses.
Studlydoright is the second Stakes winner of the weekend so far for his sire, Nyquist, joining fellow juvenile Immersive, who remained undefeated when capturing the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Del Mar. In addition to Immersive, the stallion is also the sire of Johannes, undefeated in four Graded Stakes in 2024 including the G1 Shoemaker Mile; Randomized, winner of the G1 Ogden Phipps and Tenma, the leading juvenile filly in California and winner of the G1 Del Mar Debutante.
