Street Sense exacta in G1 Las Virgenes Stakes
It was a Street Sense show January 31 in the G1 Las Virgenes Stakes as three-year-old fillies Callback and Light The City posted tremendous runs to complete the exacta at Santa Anita.
In the one-mile race Callback broke straight to the lead to set the pace, while Light The City was just off the pace in third. Around the far turn Callback began to kick on for home, and Light The City set aim for the lead. The pair battled in the stretch, with the rest of the field chasing them, and ultimately Callback sealed the win.
Bred by Vincent Colbert, Callback broke her maiden in early December at Los Alamitos, then returned to finish second in the G2 Santa Ynez Stakes behind Elusive Quality's Seduire. Callback was a $375,000 Saratoga yearling purchase for owner Spenthrift Farm and is out of Quickest, a half-sister to G1 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver and G3 winner Brethren. Quickest has also produced Stakes winner Defy Gravity and the family traces back to Darley stallion Girolamo as well as Rhythm, both G1 winners.
Other winners at the highest level for Street Sense include multiple G1 winner Sweet Reason, Australian G1 winner Hallowed Crown, and G1 Humana Distaff winner Aubby K. The sire has recently been represented by unbeaten Ocho Ocho Ocho, who impressed in the G3 Delta Downs Jackpot in November.
Street Sense's stud fee for the 2015 breeding season is $35,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
