Six-year-old Street Sense gelding Sense Of Occasion has overcome a wide run to win the Listed Premier’s Cup (1900m) at Rosehill on August 27, his second win in Stakes company.
Now trained by Kris Lees at Newcastle, Sense Of Occasion won the Listed McKell Cup (2400m) in 2014 and the Rosehill win was his first since then, bringing his record to 25 starts for six victories.
Tim Clark guided the son of Street Sense victory and despite a wide run held off his stablemate Singing to win the Premier’s Cup at his second run back from a let up.
Bred by Shadwell Stud Australasia, Sense Of Occasion is out of Zabeel mare Saywaan, a half-sister to G1 winner Rewaaya, who has had five foals to race for two winners.
Street Sense is the sire of 46 Stakes winners including such top performers as Callback, winner of the G1 Las Virgenes; Wedding Toast, winner of the G1 Ogden Phipps and G1 Beldame; and Street Fancy, winner of the G1 Starlet Stakes. In 2016 Street Sense has sired Street Strategy, winner of the Fifth Season Stakes, Street of Gold, winner of the Marie G. Krantz Memorial Stakes, and Thatcher Street, winner of the Opening Verse Stakes.
