Beau Choix, a three-year-old son of Elusive Quality, certainly lived up to his name for his owner-breeders when taking the step up to Stakes company in his stride, winning the inaugural running of the James W Murphy Stakes at Pimlico on May 15.
Settled off the early pace, Beau Choix came four wide entering the stretch and moved clear at the eighth pole, running on well to win by nearly two lengths. The fast-finishing Manhattan Fox provided Elusive Quality with the exacta, rallying close to home to take second.
Owned and bred by Belle Meadows Stable and Lael Stable, Beau Choix is out of the multiple Graded Stakes winner Belle Cherie – a half-sister to dual G1 winner Octave. Belle Cherie has a yearling full sister to Beau Choix and a 2010 colt by fellow Darley stallion Street Sense.
Elusive Quality has now sired nine individual Stakes winner and a further five Stakes performers in 2010.
