Darkroom put in a furious rally with a furlong left to run and reeled in rival In a Jam nearing the wire to earn a neck victory in a five-and-a-half furlong maiden special weight turf contest at Ellis Park on Sunday, 30 July.
The first-time starter became third winner of the weekend – and sixth overall – for his freshman sire, Enticed.
Darkroom was off a step slowly and was bumped at the start before being settled well off the pace in sixth as In a Jam and McVicker battled it out on the front end. Darkroom was forced to check while encountering traffic in the lane but rallied between rivals in the stretch and caught In a Jam nearing the wire to notch the victory.
Bred in Kentucky by Shawhan Place, Dr. Perry Wornall and William A. Thomson, Darkroom is out of Twenty Black, a winning daughter of E Dubai. Twenty Black is out of the multiple Stakes-winning mare, Mysterious Affair, and is a half sister to Stakes winners Ruth Less Blue and Blu Without You.
Runners by freshman sire Enticed are winning from coast to coast and on all surfaces – turf, dirt and synthetic. In addition to Darkroom, Enticed is the sire of recent winners Demar’s Legacy, Sugar Treat, Desert Sand, Tambo and Zorina.
