Third time was a charm for Girolamo’s two-year-old filly Lady Lucky as she made her third trip to the starting gate a winning won in maiden special weight company on the turf at Belmont Park on October 12th. The juvenile had finished third in two previous starts.
As in two other maiden events, Lady Lucky found herself far back early, only ahead of one other as the field of 12 reached the first quarter mile. From that point on, the improving filly methodically passed the rest of the pack, taking command in late stretch while putting daylight between her and her rivals at the wire.
Bred by Sequel Thoroughbreds, LLC, and Anthony Grey in New York, Lady Lucky is out of G3 winner Lady Dora, also dam of G1-placed Magical Moon, Stakes-placed Law N Dora and granddam of Stakes winner B and B’s Pulpit.
Only one other freshman sire this year has more winners than Girolamo. His other runners include Stakes winner and TDN Rising Star, She’s All Ready, who placed third in the G1 Frizette on October 3rd, Belmont Stakes-placed winner Lucky Lurie, and six and one-half length Saratoga maiden winner Libreta.
