Street Sense among the top sires of G1 winners on dirt
Street Sense has sired five G1 winners on dirt since 2013, putting him in elite company: only Bernardini, Tapit, and Curlin have sired more, with six each. Ghostzapper is next on the list with four, and no other stallion has sired more than three G1 winners on dirt during that time period.
TOP STALLIONS BY G1 WINNERS ON DIRT SINCE 2013:
Street Sense, who has sired a G1 winner from all five of his Northern Hemisphere crops to race, is the sire of dirt G1 winners Aubby K, Sweet Reason, Wedding Toast, Callback, and Street Fancy.
Street Sense’s first G1 winner was Aubby K, a filly from his first crop who won the 2013 G1 Humana Distaff on Kentucky Derby day at Churchill Downs. Bred and raced by James C. Spence and trained by Ralph Nicks, Aubby K also won the G2 Inside Information Stakes at Gulfstream and was third in the G1 Acorn at Belmont Park.

Next came three-time G1 winner Sweet Reason, who earned $1,437,700 during a stellar career. She captured the 2013 G1 Spinaway at Saratoga as a two-year-old, before returning at age three to post wins in the G1 Acorn at Belmont and the G1 Test at Saratoga. Sweet Reason was bred by Brent Harris, Beth Harris & Darley, and was trained by Leah Gyarmati for Treadway Racing Stable, who purchased her for $185,000 at the 2012 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Her dam, Livermore Leslie, produced a full brother to Sweet Reason in 2016.

Street Sense enjoyed a spectacular year in 2015, with five G1 winners worldwide including Hallowed Crown and Politeness in Australia. His three U.S. G1 winners in 2015 included Godolphin’s Wedding Toast, winner of the G1 Ogden Phipps and G1 Beldame, in addition to the G2 Ruffian, all at Belmont Park. Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, Wedding Toast retired at the end of 2015 with career earnings of $1,419,956.

Street Sense was also represented in 2015 by Callback, winner of the G1 Las Virgenes at Santa Anita. Bred by Vincent Colbert, Callback was trained by Bob Baffert for Spendthrift Farm, who purchased her for $375,000 at the 2013 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale. Street Sense's latest G1 winner is Street Fancy, who took the G1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos to become Street Sense’s second G1-winning juvenile. Street Fancy was bred by Hunter Valley Farm and was trained by Phil D’Amato for Agave Racing Stable.
Three of Street Sense’s above-mentioned G1 winning mares went through the ring on the same night at last year’s Fasig-Tipton November Sale, accounting for three of the top four prices at the sale. Callback sold for $2.8 million to Elevage Bloodstock, Sweet Reason brought $2.7 million from Katsumi Yoshida, and Aubby K went to Summer Wind Farm for $2.4 million. These three mares helped make Street Sense the leading sire of broodmares or broodmare prospects at the 2015 sales, with 21 sold for an average of $525,000.
Street Sense, who has the highest lifetime percentage of G1 horses among all stallions standing for less than $75,000, has sired 10 Black-type horses already in 2016, including Oaklawn Park stakes winner Street Strategy, Fair Grounds stakes winner Street of Gold, and Churchill Downs stakes winners Athena and Thatcher Street.
