Ginger Touch battled with favored Nova Moleca through the stretch before finally putting that rival away late to win the Listed Classico OSAF by three-quarters of a length at Gavea Racecourse August 14.
It was the first Stakes victory for the ultra-consistent daughter of Midshipman, who has now won seven of 15 starts and finished in-the-money a total of 12 times.
It was Olympic Juju who broke on top and went right to the lead out of the gate. Ginger Touch was two lengths further back in second, with Nova Moleca just behind her in third. The field continued to hold that order as they rounded the far turn, but both Ginger Touch and Nova Moleca were quickly closing in on the longtime leader. Entering the homestretch it was down to a battle between Ginger Touch and Nova Moleca, with Ginger Touch gaining the advantage in the shadow of the wire to post the victory.
Ginger Touch was bred in Brazil by her owner, Paulo Rodolfo Fischer. She is out of the winning mare, Greek Isle, and is from the immediate family of G3 Stakes winner, Filha Vitoriosa and multiple G1-placed Gipsy Bullet.
Midshipman’s 17% Black Type horses from starters continues to be among the best in the business. In addition to Ginger Touch, some of the stallion’s other top performers this year include Royal Ship, winner of the G2 Californian; Naval Laughter (G3 Modesty Stakes) and Special Reserve (G3 Maryland Sprint Match Series Stakes).
