Facundo H took the lead out of the starting gate and was never challenged on his way to cruising to a five-length victory in the G2 Clasico Copa de Oro at Club Hipico de Santiago in Chile on Friday, 20 October.
The six-year-old horse by Midshipman, who was notching his first Graded/Group Stakes victory in the Copa de Oro, has now won seven straight races and eight of his nine starts this year.
Confidently ridden by Jorge Gonzalez, Facundo H was hustled out of the starting and quickly opened up a two-length lead on his rivals. The handsome grey continued to gallop along at a comfortable pace throughout the 10-furlong contest, always racing well in-hand as he eventually coasted home to win by about five lengths.
Facundo H races as a homebred for Haras Don Alberto and is out of the unraced mare, Fratellina. In addition to Facundo H, Fratellina has produced Farreras, dam of Chilean Champion two-year-old colt and Chilean Triple Crown winner, Fortino (also by Midshipman).
Midshipman is represented this season by the talented juveniles Amidst Waves, already a two-time Stakes winner of the Listed Bolton Landing Stakes at Saratoga and the Colleen Stakes at Monmouth Park, and Ship Cadet, who wired the field when taking the Skidmore Stakes, also at Saratoga. He was the only stallion with multiple juvenile Stakes winners at Saratoga in 2023. Midshipman's 17% career Black Type horses from starters continues to be among the best in the business - no stallion under $55k can top it.
