Cigar Street smokes them in Homecoming Classic Stakes
Street Sense's Cigar Street couldn't be beaten September 27 stamping a win in the Homecoming Classic Stakes at Churchill Downs. A winner of the G3 Skip Away Stakes in 2013, it was the second Black-type win for Cigar Street.
In the one-and-one-eighth-mile race Cigar Street showed speed early, settling just off the pace under a strong hold on the outside. Taking over the lead around the far turn, he was confronted at the top of the stretch and fended off challenge to come away an easy winner.Cigar Street is out of the Deputy Minister mare Arcadiana, a half-sister to legendary Champion and G1 winner Cigar. She is also a half-sister to Puerto Rican Champion Mulca and the dam of G3 winner Laura's Lucky Boy.
Cigar Street is one of 11 Graded Stakes winners for Street Sense, who is also the sire of three-time G1 winner Sweet Reason, G1 Humana Distaff winner Aubby K, unbeaten Australian G1 winner Hallowed Crown, and multiple Graded Stakes winner and G1-placed Unlimited Budget, among others. A son of Street Cry, Street Sense remains the only horse to ever win both the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and G1 Kentucky Derby.
