Aztec Sense kept his winning streak alive when he cruised to a two-length victory in the G3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes at Gulfstream Park Jan. 26.
The six-year-old gelded son of Street Sense has now won nine straight races, six of them coming in stakes. The Hooper marked Aztec Sense’s first Graded Stakes win.
Breaking alertly out of the starting gate, Aztec Sense raced in second, only a half-length off the leader, through the early stages of the race. Slipping through an opening on the rail, Aztec Sense moved up to challenge for the lead on the far turn. He took command at the top of the stretch, and easily repelled all challenges to win by two lengths.
Bred in Kentucky by Charles Fipke, Aztec Sense is out of the Stakes-placed mare, Aztec Pearl (by A.P. Indy). Aztec Pearl is a full sister to Champion Festival Of Light and a half-sister to G1 winners Acoma (Spinster Stakes) and Arch (Super Derby).
In addition to Aztec Sense, Street Sense is also represented this year by Doctor Mounty, winner of the G3 Tropical Turf Stakes earlier this month.
Street Sense will stand the 2019 breeding season at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for $50,000, stands and nurses.
