Amidst Waves engaged in a thrilling battle through the stretch with Crown Imperial before prevailing by a nose at the wire to win the Listed Bolton Landing Stakes at Saratoga on Sunday, 20 August.
It was the second straight Stakes win for the two-year-old daughter of Midshipman; she entered the race off a victory in Monmouth Park’s Colleen Stakes on 29 July. Amidst Waves has now won three straight and boasts a record of three wins in four starts.
Amidst Waves was a bit fractious in the starting gate but came away in good order and was settled well off the pace by jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. Caught three-wide going into the far turn, Amidst Waves rallied strongly despite racing a little greenly, and was able to get the better of Crown Imperial to earn the victory.
Amidst Waves was bred in Kentucky by Woods Edge Farm and Ballyfair Bloodstock and is out of Troublesome, a winning daughter of Into Mischief. Purchased as a yearling for $100,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Sale, Amidst Waves hails from the female family of Stakes winners Time to Dream, Five Star Dream and Five Star Deputy.
Amidst Waves continues the hot streak of juvenile winners this summer for her sire, Midshipman. In addition to his dual Stakes-winning daughter, the stallion is represented by the juvenile colt, Ship Cadet, who wired the field when winning the Skidmore Stakes at Saratoga on 18 August. Another juvenile, Call Me Andy, is a two-time Stakes-placed colt so far this season. Among older runners, Midshipman is well-represented by recent Chilean Triple Crown winner, Fortino.
