She may have only made five appearances on the racetrack but with Zenyatta it’s a case of quality over quantity as she increased her tally to five straight wins with a convincing display in the G2 Milady Handicap at Hollywood Park on Saturday.
The four-year-old daughter of leading third-crop sire Street Cry has now romped to three graded stakes victories this year having started in impressive fashion in the G2 El Encino Stakes at Santa Anita in January which she followed up with G1 success in the Apple Blossom Handicap in April.
“All I can say is just amazing,” said elated jockey Mike Smith after her two-and-a-half length triumph. “She just galloped man”.
With her earnings now standing at $554,580, those sentiments will no doubt be echoed by her lucky owners Jerry and Ann Moss. Zenyatta is out of the Kris S mare Vertigineux and was bred by Maverick Production Ltd.
Street Cry’s progeny were in action all around the world on Saturday with Big Timer, who was his first ever stakes winner when landing the G3 Acomb Stakes at two, running second in the G3 JW Lees Stakes at Haydock in the UK. At Eagle Farm in Australia, three-year-old colt Teary Eyed also finished runner-up in the G3 Prop House Grand Prix Stakes.
The lightly-raced Cherokee Artist, a son of Cherokee Run and a winner last time out, was second in the G2 Ohio Derby on only his third start. Out of the Mr Prospector mare Race Artist, the three-year-old colt is owned by his breeder J. Mack Robinson.
